Philadelphia Gay Guide / LGBT Guide
Philadelphia, also known as ‘Philly’, is located in the Northeast of the United States, and has a climate that varies from hot and humid in summer to very cold and snowy in winter. Philadelphia has a significant place in American history, having served as a meeting place for the Founding Fathers of the US and becoming one of the nation’s capitals during the Revolutionary War. Consequently, there are plenty of museums and sites of historical interest to visit. However, there is more to the city than its history, which you will discover when you see all the other things the city has to offer.
If you’re looking for a particularly gay-friendly area to visit, you should try the Gayborhood, as this is where you will find a large concentration of gay bars and clubs and gay-friendly restaurants and other establishments. It is in this area of the city that OutFest Philadelphia takes place, held on National Coming Out Day in October to raise awareness of LGBT issues and to celebrate the coming out rite of passage. There are carnival events, a flea market and various forms of entertainment to enjoy and plenty of friendly people to meet, making it a worthwhile event to check out. There are plenty of other areas in the city to explore and things to do. You can pay a visit to Philadelphia Zoo; explore the city’s parks that include Fairmont Park and Clark Park amongst others. You can visit various historical attractions, such as the Edgar Allan Poe National Historic Site and the Fairmount Water Works, whilst there are also plenty of museums to visit. These include the Institute Science Museum, the Rosenbach Museum & Library and Rodin Museum, as well as the African American Museum, the National Museum of American Jewish History and Independence Seaport Museum. There are also numerous venues where you are able to listen to live music and watch theatrical performances, which contribute to making Philadelphia the fascinating city it is.
