With a population of nearly 830,000 Indianapolis is one of the fastest growing cities in the US and serves as capital of Indiana. The city is famous for being the ‘Racing Capital of the World’ due to being home of the Indy 500, Brickyard 400 and the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. There is much more to the city than just motor racing, though, as there are numerous landmarks dotted along the landscape, as well as trails to explore and stunning scenery to see. There are numerous museums, art galleries, theatres, comedy clubs and music venues where you can sample some of the city’s culture.

If you want to get to know the city better, it is worth checking out some of the many landmarks in the area, such as the Indiana State Capitol; the Soldiers' & Sailors' Monument; the Indiana War Memorial; White River Gardens; the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial; and the Holcomb Observatory and Planetarium. You can also increase the depth of your knowledge by visiting some of the museums and galleries in the city, such as the Indiana State Museum; the National Art Museum of Sports; the Museum of Miniature Houses; the Indianapolis Museum of Contemporary Art; the Indianapolis Fire-fighters Museum & Historical Society; the Indiana Medical History Museum; the Conner Prairie Living History Museum; and the Indianapolis Museum of Art.

The city also plays host to a number of festivals and events throughout the year, including the Indianapolis International Film Festival; the Indiana State Fair; the Indy Fringe Festival; and the Indy Jazz Fest. There is the Indianapolis LGBT Film Festival and a week of gay pride events, including a parade and festival, which is referred to as Circle City IN Pride, where members of the LGBT community come together to have a good time as well as raise awareness of LGBT issues. There are also gay-friendly areas of the city, including Broad Ripple Village, and so you will find there are many gay bars and other establishments that cater for the gay community. Indianapolis is an exciting city to find yourself in, so it’s worth making the most of your time there.
