Located towards the west of the country, between the Great Plains and Rocky Mountains, Denver is the largest city of Colorado and also serves as the capital. It is a city that embraces its mining and cowboy heritage, but is also very forward-looking with a fascinating contemporary performing arts scene, a number of different festivals and plenty of locations worth exploring. Since Denver is a large, metropolitan city, you will find that there are also plenty of amenities and events that cater for members of the LGBT community.

Capitol Hill is an area of the city known for being particularly embracing of gay culture and is sometimes referred to as a gay village. It is a very cosmopolitan place and you will find there are a wide range of restaurants, coffee shops, bars, clubs, shops and concert venues. If you’re looking for somewhere with an exciting nightlife, you may well want to check out this area of the city. Plus, if you want to celebrate belonging to the gay community, it is here that the annual PrideFest event is held, where you can enjoy the traditional rally, parade and street fair.

There are many more places worth visiting during your stay in Denver, with a large number of buildings and museums to see. You may want to check out the Colorado State Capitol; the Denver Mint; the Chamberlin Observatory; the Black American West Museum & Heritage Center; the Denver Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys; the History Colorado Center and the Money Museum, amongst others. There are also amusement parks to visit, such as Waterworld, and festivals that include the Colorado Renaissance Festival and the Cherry Creek Arts Festival.

In such a large city, it’s not surprising that there are so many places to visit and activities to participate in. The Advocate in 2012 ranked Denver as number 15 in their 15 "gayest" US cities list.
