Atlanta Gay Guide / LGBT Guide
Atlanta is one of the most metropolitan and progressive cities in the south of the USA and, consequently, is an appealing city for gay men, lesbians and the LGBT community in general. It experiences hot and humid weather in summer, which has led Atlanta to gain the nickname of ‘Hotlanta’. There are gay bars and clubs and gay-friendly restaurants, coffee houses and other establishments, though they tend to be rather spread out. There are also events and activities held throughout the year that are organised by and arranged for the gay community. Consequently, if you’re heading down south, Atlanta could be the ideal city to visit.
You can take part in the Atlanta Pride festival where there is much partying to do and many different forms of entertainment to enjoy, including a car show, cultural exhibits and cabaret. There is the Atlanta Out on Film gay film festival, where you can watch films that reflect the experiences of the LGBT community. If you want a taste of even more gay culture, you could always attend MondoHomo Dirty South where you can listen to music, look at works of art and watch theatrical performances, enjoy burlesque shows, a dance party and learn more about LGBT-related political issues. Another event held in Atlanta is the Southeast Leatherfest, which is a very popular fetish event held annually.
There are numerous tourist attractions in Atlanta, such as the World of Coca-Cola, the Georgia Aquarium and the CNN Center. There is the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site, the Atlanta History Center, the Fernbank Museum of Natural History, the Jimmy Carter Library & Museum and a number of other museums to visit. There are also a number of parks where you can relax and enjoy various events that are put on, which include the Centennial Olympic Park, Piedmont Park and Grant Park. Plus, there are a range of festivals held throughout the year, such as the Southeastern Flower Show, the Georgia Renaissance Festival and the Georgia Shakespeare Festival amongst others.
