Seattle Gay Guide / LGBT Guide
Seattle has a number of nicknames including ‘The Emerald City’ and ‘Rain City’, which give you some idea of the environment of the area – it’s green, wet, and full of evergreen trees. Seattle covers a vast area and is, in fact, the largest city in the Pacific Northwest region, containing approximately four million people. The weather may not always be on your side, but there is still plenty of fun to be had, not least because it is a gay-friendly city with plenty of activities and establishments that are targeted primarily at the LGBT community.
Capitol Hill has long been a gay hub and consequently, you will find that there are numerous gay-owned and gay-friendly businesses and amenities for you to use from coffee houses to book stores. The area is well-known for its wild nightlife and so if you enjoy going to gay bars and clubs, this is the place to be. If you prefer something a little more culturally highbrow, you will find that there are a number of well-known cinemas, such as the Broadway Performance Hall, where showings of the Seattle Lesbian & Gay Film Festival are held. There are also performing arts theatres and dance studios and the opportunity to view public art throughout the neighbourhood.
Seattle is also home to some gay-orientated events, including Rainbow Rampage, a motor rally that is held across seven days finishing with a huge party, though there are also nightly parties to keep you going! Seattle Pride is another big draw, attracting thousands of visitors with a range of events that include the Pride picnic, parties, parade and PrideFest. You have an opportunity to fraternise with other members of the gay community and have a good time. Of course the city has much more to offer, as you will find out with so many museums, buildings and parks to explore, as well as festivals and events to enjoy. You’re bound to find something to do when you stay in Seattle. Lets not forget either that Seattle is the home of Fraiser !
