As a global city, it is a major centre of trade, business, culture, media, sports, education and entertainment. It is home to Hollywood, and is a world leader when it comes to film and television production, music and video games. Los Angeles is a large city with a number of districts, and so there are plenty of areas to explore, although it isn’t the most navigable city if you don’t have access to a car.
There are many museums and cultural institutions worth seeking out during your stay in Los Angeles, including the Getty Center; the Museum of Contemporary Art; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History; the California Afro-American Museum; the Page Museum at La Brea Tar Pits, a site of paleontological discoveries; the Museum of Tolerance, where racism and discrimination in the US and throughout the world is examined; and the Japanese American National Museum.
You might decide to pay a trip to Hollywood to see the famous sign and the Walk of Fame. You could also visit the Los Angeles Fire Department Hollywood Museum 27; the Hollywood Wax Museum and Ripley’s Believe it or Not, a museum full of oddities. If you visit South Central, you could visit the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County; the California Science Center; the California African American Museum; and the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum.
Los Angeles is a sprawling city with much to see and do, whether you want to experience the city’s culture or simply shop. Plus, it is a gay-friendly destination with plenty of gay bars and clubs where you can mingle and a number of gay-oriented events such as Los Angeles Pride and Outfest, a showcase for LGBT films. Although a city in its own right, a visit to West Hollywood (known as WeHo) is a must for any gay tourist. It has been described as the gayest city in the USA with numerous gay clubs and bars to frequent. The Los Angeles Pride festival is held in WeHo.
