Situated in the North West of England along the coast of the Irish Sea, Blackpool has long been a popular tourist destination in the UK, especially during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Its status as a leading seaside resort was challenged as the twentieth century progressed, but it continues to attract millions of visitors each year who are able to appreciate Blackpool's major attractions and landmarks. There is fun to be had during a stay in Blackpool, not least because the town is considered to be the 'gay capital of the North'. Blackpool has a thriving gay scene and wild nightlife, so it is well worth a trip!

There are numerous gay bars and clubs in the town, as well as gay-friendly restaurants and hotels. The town also plays host to Blackpool Pride where members of the LGBT community can celebrate their sexuality as well as raise awareness of important issues they continue to face. Of course, there are plenty of other forms of entertainment in the town if you don't fancy clubbing, including various cabaret and drag shows. Blackpool has even more to offer besides its nightlife, though, as there are also a large number of famous attractions and landmarks that continue to pull in the crowds.

You may want to visit Blackpool Tower and take a glass elevator all the way up to the observation deck. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is also popular with tourists, and so if you enjoy fairground rides, this could be for you, especially as it contains Britain’s tallest rollercoaster ride. You could decide to go for a walk along the three different piers and enjoy the amusements on offer or have a look at the stalls located along the central pier. Blackpool illuminations are also very popular with tourists and can be viewed for free. If you’re interested in history, you can take a trip on the Blackpool tram, which is the only first-generation tramway to survive in the UK.

Even though Blackpool may not attract as many tourists as it once did, there is obviously enough going on in the town to keep people coming back!
