With a population of 2,440,986, Birmingham, which can be found in the West Midlands, is the third most populous city within the UK. Birmingham has an important place in the UK’s history, having been at the heart of the Midlands Enlightenment and being so central to the Industrial Revolution of the eighteenth and early-nineteenth centuries. Political radicalism was fostered in the city and Birmingham had an influential role in shaping British democracy. Modern-day Birmingham has plenty to offer in terms of culture and sport, shopping and nightlife. If you’re particularly interested in exploring the gay side of the city, Hurst Street on the edge of the Chinese Quarter is the place to be, as this is the city’s gay village.

There are more canals than Venice and the one in the city centre has lots of Bars and Restuarants along it and with Broad Street running alongside with Bars and Hotels plus the ICC international convention centre and Symphony Hall inside and the Repertory theatre next door, not too far a walk to the gay village also.

It is around the Hurst Street area that the Birmingham Gay Pride event is held. The event takes place over the Spring Bank Holiday weekend in May and features a gay parade that passes through the city centre and lots of musical and dance events, entertainers, stalls and a funfair. Another notable event held in the city is the Birmingham Pride Ball, giving attendees an opportunity to dress up and dance. If you prefer the idea of something less formal, there are plenty of gay bars, nightclubs, and other gay-friendly establishments in the area where you have an opportunity to socialise.

There is much more to Birmingham than its nightlife, though, and so you may decide to explore some of the city’s museums and galleries and learn more about the city’s history and cultural significance. You could always pay a visit to the Barber Institute of Fine Arts or visit the Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery, for instance. Sarehole Mill, Soho House, Thinktank and the Museum of the Jewellery Quarter are also worth visiting. If you like chocolate, then Cadbury World is the place to be! There are also parks you can explore, such as Birmingham Botanical Gardens & Glasshouse, Cannon Hill Park, Birmingham Nature Centre, and the National Sea Life Centre. Thus, you’re bound to find something to keep you interested in this large, diverse city.
