Brighton is a popular destination for those wishing to escape the hustle and bustle of London, because it’s within easy reach of the city and is located on the south coast of the UK. Plus, Brighton has a bohemian vibe and is welcoming of artists, musicians and other non-conventional sorts. The area also has a significant gay presence and so has unofficially been dubbed the 'Gay Capital of Britain'. Thus, you will find there are plenty of establishments, such as bars, clubs and restaurants that cater specifically for gay men and lesbians.
Kemptown is a small community that is recognised as Brighton’s gay village and it is here that you will find a particular concentration of gay-friendly establishments. Whilst in Brighton, you can also enjoy Brighton and Hove Pride that takes place in August. There is a parade where participants dress up in colourful outfits, as well as a festival. You can watch the live musical and theatrical performances, have a few to drink and get to know people. It is a very popular event that often attracts more than 100,000 people.
There are plenty of other things to do and see during a stay in Brighton. Brighton Festival is the second biggest arts festival held in the UK, and features music, art exhibitions, theatrical performances and literature debates. The Brighton Festival Fringe runs alongside the main festival and gives you a chance to experience new comedy, music, theatre and art.
If you decide to explore Brighton, there are a number of areas worth seeking out, including Brighton Beach, the Palace Pier and the Royal Pavilion. There are also museums, art galleries and theatres in the area, such as the Brighton Museum and Art Gallery, the Toy and Model Museum, the Booth Museum of Natural History, the Grand Parade, the Theatre Royal, the Pavilion Theatre, the Dome Concert Hall Corn and the Exchange Theatre. Thus, if you’re interested in art and culture, Brighton is well worth a visit, though the area is also known for its exciting nightlife as well, so there is something for everyone!
