Located along the south bank of the Ottawa River, Ottawa is the fourth largest city in Canada and serves as the nation’s capital. It is a culturally diverse city that is growing rapidly and is at the political and technological heart of the nation. There are plenty of parks and open spaces to explore by foot in this green city, unless you choose to hire a bike and use the many bike lanes available. You can also learn more about the cultural significance of the city by visiting some of the numerous museums and art galleries available and enjoy the sights and activities that make Ottawa a unique tourist destination.
You may decide to take a tour of Parliament Hill, the home of Canadian democracy, or visit other cultural institutions and landmarks in the city, such as the Canadian War Museum; the Canadian Museum of Civilization; the Canadian Museum of Nature; the Science and Technology Museum; the National Gallery; the Canada Aviation Museum; the Bank of Canada Currency Museum; the Royal Canadian Mint; Bytown Museum; Canada's Cold War Museum; and the Supreme Court of Canada. The city also plays host to a number of festivals, such as the Ottawa Jazz Festival; the Fringe Festival; the Tulip Festival; and Winterlude.
Ottawa’s nightlife is also worth experiencing and you should really head over to ‘The Market’ as this is where you will find the majority of gay bars, clubs and other gay-friendly establishments. There are also a number of gay-centred events held in the city, including the Capital Pride Festival, which is Ottawa’s gay pride event that attracts a huge crowd with its parade and other festivities. Mr Leather Ottawa is another popular event for gay men held in the city. In such an open, diverse and welcoming city you will find that there are plenty of opportunities to drink, dance, socialise and discover more about the city. All-in-all, Ottawa is a fun city worth paying a visit to.
