I am a retired teacher of English and Drama who spends his time reading, writing, looking after the house and garden and meeting up with friends. I am an unstuffy lover of culture with particular interest in theatre, classical music, opera and ballet. I am a published poet and writer of performance pieces. I have run two writing goups in the past, one for the LGBT community in Manchester, and now devote my time and energies mainly to my own work. I am a guide at Tatton Park and also a volunteer at Elizabeth Gaskell's House in Manchester, where my work is regulalrly performed.
I am outgoing, enjoy company and can be extrovert, even outrageous, although the quieter, introspective, creative side of me is quite the opposite. Hence I am able to make good use of my solitude to get on with projects, like writing poems and talks and updating this profile.
I enjoy walking in the beautiful Cheshire countryside where I live. I love Manchester, where I grew up, and thrive on its diversity and stimulation. My volunteering work at Elizabeth Gaskell's House is a major source of fun and friendship.
I have been single for a while through choice although am now open to a relationship. I do not have a specific type although I am particularly attracted to men of colour. Ideally I would like to have an ongoing relationship which involved intimacy and closeness as well as respect for the independence of each person in the sense of being close but not living in each other's pockets. I have lived on my own a long time now and am used to my independence but who knows what might develop with the right person. As a mature man with educational experience, I find being supportive to younger people rewarding and could envisage a relationship with a younger guy, should anyone be interested, although I do not have a fixed concept of ages and roles - it is more a question of meeting someone, finding a connection and taking it from there. Kindness, warmth and honesty are qualities I aspire to in myself and value in others.
I'm not after sex for its own sake so am not likely to be interested in pictures of someone's bits - well certainly not for starters. Personal connection, warmth and liking are for more important to me these days.
