As the provincial capital of Ontario and with a population of over 2.6 million inhabitants, Toronto is the most populous city in Canada. Consequently, there is definitely no shortage of activities to do, events to enjoy and sights to see. There is also a notable gay scene in Toronto, with Church and Wellesley proving to be a popular area of the city with members of the LGBT community. There are numerous gay bars, clubs, restaurants, stores and other facilities with a gay-friendly vibe located there, although Toronto itself is a friendly city and so wherever you go, you are likely to be embraced regardless of your sexuality.
Unsurprisingly, there are quite a few events that are targeted squarely at the gay community. These include the Friends for Life Bike Rally that takes you from Toronto to Montreal in order to raise money for HIV/AIDS charities. There is the Inside Out Film and Video Festival where you can watch the latest films to address issues relevant to the gay community. There are also events that appeal to men interested in leather, such as Toronto Leather Pride and Toronto Bound Weekend. Of course, Toronto also has an annual pride event, which takes place across 10 days and is actually one of the largest gay pride events in the world, with many festivities to enjoy.
Toronto has plenty of other activities to offer tourists, with numerous museums, art galleries and theatres worth visiting. If you’re interested in exploring some of the city’s culture, you may want to check out the Royal Ontario Museum, the Ontario Science Centre, the Art Gallery of Ontario, the Toronto Aerospace Museum, and the Bata Shoe Museum. Plus, you could always enjoy some stand-up comedy or productions staged in the big theatres that are based on Yonge Street or smaller theatres located close by.
Toronto is also a city where you can get active, if you want, as there are some beautiful areas in which you can walk or cycle, whilst you may prefer to take a leisurely stroll through the city as you look for souvenirs to purchase.
