Barcelona is Spain’s second largest city with a population of over 1.5 million people and is located on the Mediterranean coast. The city has a cosmopolitan atmosphere and is a very attractive city that appeals to tourists who are able to enjoy this very old city which manages to combine tradition and modernity very effectively. Barcelona is a friendly, welcoming city and you will feel very much at home there. It is unlikely you will ever run out of things to do in the city, as there are plenty of museums and places of historical interest to visit, as well as nightclubs and bars to drink and dance in.
If you’re looking for a gay-friendly neighbourhood to explore, your best bet is to check out the central area of the Eixample district, which has been given the nickname Gaixample due to the presence of so many gay and lesbian residents and the wide variety of gay shops, bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels and other gay-friendly businesses in the area. This is definitely the place to be if you want to enjoy the thriving nightlife that Barcelona has to offer. There are also a number of gay-friendly events held throughout the year, including Bearcelona, where you can mingle with sexy bears, the Barcelona Lesbian and Gay Film Festival and Barcelona Pride, where you can enjoy the parade and other festivities on offer.
You might choose to explore the city by bike or on foot. La Rambla is a popular walkway lined with trees and El Portal de l'Àngel is a pedestrian walkway with plenty of fashionable shops to go shopping in. You might decide to spend some time at the beach and relax on the sand or enjoy the numerous water sports on offer. There are also a lot of festivals and events held in Barcelona, which may well appeal to you. If you enjoy music, you may want to check out Sónar and the Monegros Desert Festival, whilst the Festes de Gràcia and Festes de Sants give you an opportunity to enjoy the traditional Catalonian celebration of the Assumption. There are certainly plenty of opportunities to have fun during a stay in Barcelona.
