Adelaide is the fifth largest city in Australia with a population of 1.23 million inhabitants. It was founded in 1836 and its development was influenced by a commitment to religious freedom and political progressivism. Today, Adelaide serves as capital of South Australia, and, thus, the city is home to numerous governmental and financial institutions. You will also find that there are plenty of festivals, including those which are targeted at the LGBT community, and sporting events to enjoy. You can enjoy the scenery, including long beachfronts, and go shopping, enjoy the food and drink on offer, and appreciate the city’s culture and nightlife.
To get a taste of the city’s culture, you could take a trip to some of the museums and other institutions in the area, such as the Migration Museum; the Art Gallery of South Australia; the South Australian Museum; the Port Adelaide Train Museum; the South Australian Maritime Museum; the National Motor Museum; the National Wine Centre; and the Bicentennial Conservatory.
If you enjoy the great outdoors, you could always try exploring one of the many national parks in the area, including the Belair National Park; Cleland Conversation Park; and the Morialta Conservation Park. You could also go for a walk through the Adelaide Botanic Gardens or around West Beach; if you don’t fancy walking you could always go for a swim or enjoy the various water sports that are on offer.
