The people who give Brighton a negative review should try living or visiting Derby, because, believe me, Brighton is so much friendlier than here. Both scene and non scene are great and I cannot get enough of the city and will be back in December. So maybe some of you nice chunky older guys may like to give it another go .Trust me, excellent shopping, good bars and restaurants and not at all aimed at the teenagers like most gay scenes in the UK....

A couple of reviews comment on the lack of bars for older men. This is not unique to Brighton, most places are the same. However, older members should have paid a visit to "The Zone" in St. James's Street, right in the heart of the gay village. This is a piano bar, aimed at older guys and is doing remarkably well. On my visits to Starrs bar, in Starr's Hotel (named after Phil Starr) there was a good mix of ages too. The places are here guys, you just have to look around, and goodness, there are enough to choose from.

I agree with the two earlier posters that Brighton is well known as a gay town and there are lots of things to see and do which are not gay related. However when it comes to the night life for the "older man" they are not catered for and a warm welcome is not forthcoming in the pubs and clubs. Time for some enterprising guy/s (or girls) to open up a club/bar for the older man

I moved to Brighton 18 months ago....and yet I have to meet anyone!!! Good place for quick "shags" if that is what you are after, otherwise forget it!

Despite the fact that so many older men retire to Brighton there really hasn't been anywhere to find them in the evening. However finally two places have opened in the Old Steine area that *should* attract an older crowd - pass the word to any older men who live there! Revue Bar (under Starr's hotel) 19 New Steine Piano bar The Zone 33 St James's Street Camp sing-alongs
